Men’s and Women’s Fours Finish Strong at Head of the Charles
Saturday, October 18th, 2014Day one of Head of the Charles has just wrapped up and with it, a couple of great finishes were had by Grand Valley Boats. Both the Men’s Club Four and the Women’s Collegiate Four had Top 15 finishes. Also a valiant effort was put forth by the Men’s and Women’s Alumni Eights.
The Men’s Alumni Eight had a tough race this afternoon when their rudder broke mid race causing the coxswain to make hand turns for the remainder. Due to the breakage in hardware the Eight finished slightly lower than expected and came in at 52nd place. Next, the Women’s Alumni Eight had a strong finish in a very competitive race and eventually came in 37th.
Following the Alumni Races, the Men’s Club Four made a splash in the standings finishing tenth out of fifty-two. This ties the finish from last year for the best finish in this event in the teams history. One of the final races in the day was the Women’s Collegiate Four race where Grand Valley finished thirteenth out of thirty-six crews. The great finish by the Collegiate Four is even more impressive when considering the boat was made up of four sophomores and one freshman. With racing half-way done at Head of the Charles, all eyes now shift to the Men’s and Women’s Varsity Eights who race tomorrow at 2:52pm and 3:08pm respectively. Be sure to catch these races on the regatta live-strem which can be viewed at http://www.hocr.org/the-regatta/live-webcast/.
