Facilities/Equipment
Boathouse
The Grand Valley boathouse is located on campus, a short ten minute walk from the freshman dormitories. It resides on a beautiful, scenic stretch of the Grand River. With ideal river levels, this stretch allows the athletes to row on up to 26 miles of protected water. Equipment includes: 8 Eights, 7 Fours, 8 Pairs/Doubles, and 9 Singles. In 2006-2007, Student Senate helped the team purchase two brand new Hudson eights for the men and women. Recent donations from friends of the rowing team allowed the purchase of several small boats for training and racing, including two new WinTech fours. With continued support from Student Senate, alumni, and friends, the boathouse will remain up to date with state of the art equipment for years to come.
The boathouse can be reached by taking 40th Avenue off Lake Michigan Drive (Westbound) and turning right at the “Crew” sign, then following the old M-45 alignment to the boathouse parking lot at the bottom of the hill. Alternatively, athletes on campus can reach the boathouse via the ravine trail system, with a trailhead to the rear of Seidman Living Center.
Rowing Training Center
The Rowing Training Center is located across the north entrance of campus on Lake Michigan Dr. next to Hanson’s Auto. Equipment consists of 36 ergometers and several weight training machines, including a new Smith machine. The summer of 2007 saw a donation that allowed the team to purchase ‘The Mike and Gabi Cipollone Entertainment Center’. The flat screen television and sound system donated allows for the athletes to review film and breaks up the training. The training center, along with the Fieldhouse, make it possible for the athletes to train at a high level year round.
Fieldhouse
The newly updated Grand Valley Fieldhouse is found in a central location on campus, between the classrooms and dormitories. It boosts top of the line exercise and weight training equipment, an indoor track, indoor pool, indoor basketball courts, and offers several aerobic classes. Recently remodeled/added onto, the addition added two larger weight rooms, full locker rooms, spinning room, and expanded the cardio area.
The Laker Turf Building, a state of the art movement sciences building that features a full 400 meter track, opened Fall 2008.
