Team set to Christen 2 new boats
Tuesday, December 19th, 2006The GVSU Rowing Team is proud to announce the names of two added to the Laker Navy fleet. These boats were named in honor of the team’s previous coaches. The new varsity women’s boat is a new Hudson Elite LWT 8 and will be named “The Jedlics”. Chad and Brie Jedlic coach the team from 2000 until 2005 when they moved back to Canada to raise their daughter, Lily. Since then the they have had another baby girl, Zoe. “The Jedlics” will be christened at the Lubbers Cup Regatta on February 31st, 2007.
The second boat to be christened is a new Heavy Weight Wintech 4+ which will be named the “Richard Laurance”. Richard coached from 1995 to 1999. He had this to say, “My fondest memories are working with the great student/athletes that I met at Grand Valley, many of whom remain great friends. On the competitive side, watching our women’s light eight compete against the Ivy League Schools at the 1996 Eastern Association of Women’s Rowing Champions, leading Wisconsin until the final strokes of the race. Watching a men’s varsity four row one of the finest races I have ever seen, by a crew that I have coached, at the 1997 Intercollegiate Rowing Championships Grand Final coming in fourth to Minnesota, Georgetown and California while beating Princeton and Wisconsin was a highpoint. I enjoyed greatly working with the students, faculty, and staff at Grand Valley State University.” The “Richard Laurance” will be christened next Homecoming on October 13th, 2007.
We invite everyone out to these events to help celebrate the christenings of two new boats.
